Adoption Policies Page

The following is a general policy for all adoptions:

1.      Prospective owners must agree to spay/neuter all animals adopted from shelter.

2.      Animals may be adopted as “gifts” only when the individual in whose home the animal will live is present at the Shelter and only if they agree to accept full responsibility for the animal.

3.      Persons adopting animals from shelter must be at least 18 years old.

4.      The Shelter manager can refuse to let a person adopt an animal if there is reason to doubt the adequacy of the home environment for the animal, or if the shelter has had a negative experience with the adopter previously.

5.      Once an animal has been adopted, the adopter becomes the legal owner of the animal.  The Shelter will not reveal the new owners name or address to the previous owner or to any member of the public without a written request for information.

6.      Adoption fees are non-refundable. If an animal is returned to the Center because of behavior issues or because it did not just work out.  The adoption fee will be forfeited. However, should an animal get sick or die within 7 business days of adoption due to illness, the owner may choose a refund or replacement for that animal at no additional cost.

7.      If the new owner prefers to use a non-participating veterinarian, the cost for surgery becomes the new owner’s responsibility.

8.      No animals may be adopted to residences that stipulate no pets.
