The Animal Center of Moore County was completed in July 2002 to provide temporary shelter for the county's unwanted and stray companion animals.

As the county grows, so does the number of these unfortunate animals. In 2009, we took in almost 5000 dogs and cats- a twenty percent increase in the last two years. Although we have one of the highest adoption rates in the state, far too many adoptable animals have to be put down to make room for others. We urge everyone to be responsible and (unless you are a breeder) have your animal spayed or neutered. It is the humane thing to do and less expensive in the long run.

We are very proud of our sparkling clean shelter, and encourage all citizens of Moore County to come and visit us. The selection of adoptable animals is very large, and our fees are very reasonable.

Last year Moore County Animal Control returned over 200 dogs and cats to their owners and facilitated the reunion of another hundred. If you loose your pet, please call us. We may have it, or someone may well have already reported finding it.  For more detail, click on the Lost & Found link to the left
