Moore County Unified Development Ordinance Review

Upcoming Review Dates:

The schedule of future meeting of the Board of Commissioners review of the draft UDO language will be placed here

Background

Since January 2010 Moore County has been undertaking a project to combine and streamline the existing county development ordinances into one cohesive document that will improve the usability of the ordinances making it customer friendly and easier to understand. This new document is called a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

Process

The first step in this endeavor is to merely rearrange the existing language into a format that is easily understandable and that eliminates overlapping and conflicting language within the existing ordinance. This step will involve some language changes however it will not result in new ordinance standards or regulations for development. It will only update existing language to streamline and clarify the current ordinance and eliminate glaring errors, omissions, and holes in the language.

The second step is to review the document section by section with the Moore County Planning Board before bringing the entire document to you the citizens for more detailed review and input.

At their January 6, 2011 regular meeting the Moore County Planning Board endorsed a review schedule for the draft Unified Development Ordinance that will begin in February. Between February and June 2011 the Planning Board will be reviewing sections of the UDO and will be welcoming anyone that would like to attend and participate in this effort.

Planning Board Review

The Moore County Planning Board completed their review of the draft Unified Development Ordinance language at their April 5, 2012 meeting.  A public hearing was held at which the Planning Board unanimously recommended forwarding the draft document to the Moore County Board of Commissioners to review and decide to approve or continue to revise the draft language.

Board of Commissioner Review

Future meetings held by the Board of Commissioners regarding the UDO language review will be posted on this site.

Invitation for Public Review

Following the Planning Board’s review of the plan later in the year a series of Public Review Workshops will be held where you the citizens can let us know where you would like to see changes in the ordinance. If there’s something you would like to see changed please come and tell us!

All of the suggestions will be compiled into a ‘parking lot’ of ideas for additional changes to the ordinance that will be reviewed, researched and considered by the Planning Board and Planning staff beginning in the Fall of 2011.

Hard copies of the UDO language are available for public review by contacting Moore County Planning and Community Development at (910) 947-5010 and making a request.
