The Volunteer Center and Retired
and Senior Volunteer Program staff are delighted that you are
interested in volunteerism! We applaud your willingness to share
your time and talents in an effort to meet community needs.
Our local service agencies utilize volunteers to administer and
assist in community programs focused on a variety of issues and
interests. As a volunteer, we hope you will discover that your life
experiences, knowledge, and skills are a rich resource. Volunteering
provides the opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution and
improve the quality of life for all in our community.
In return for your meaningful gifts of time and talent, volunteering
offers the chance to make new friends, participate in social events,
and receive recognition for a job well done!
If you are 55 years or older, you are eligible for the benefits
offered through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. RSVP is
part of the National Senior Corps, a network of federally supported
programs to help people age 55 and older find service opportunities
that meet community needs. Many benefits are offered through this
program including volunteer supplemental insurance.
RSVP is federally funded by the Corporation for National and
Community Service and locally through the County of Moore. The
Department of Aging sponsors RSVP. A full-time director manages the
program. An Advisory Council advises and supports the staff in
forming local policy, as well as planning and developing operational
procedures and practices. RSVP volunteers are encouraged to become
involved with the Advisory Council and may become members.
The Corporation for National and Community Service was established
in 1993 to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service
to their communities. The Corporation oversees Americorps, Learn and
Serve America, and the Senior Corps, engaging more than two million
Americans in service to their communities and country each year.
The Moore County Volunteer Center is a member of the Volunteer
Center National Network. The centers engage and mobilize millions of
volunteers who are helping to solve serious social problems in
thousands of communities. |
