Patrol Deputy

Deputies are responsible for enforcing criminal and traffic laws, serving papers and responding to calls for service throughout Moore County. Qualified individuals should check with the Moore County Sheriff's Office to ascertain if there are any openings.
 
Requirements:
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license
  • Must submit to a background check and drug screening
  • Must be able to work various shifts
  • Must have not been convicted of any felonies or certain misdemeanors
  • Must have completed Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) or be nearin successful completion
 
Deputy 1 job description:
The Patrol Officer's duties are those of preliminary criminal investigation, service of criminal and civil process, patrolling assigned areas, correction of public safety hazards, restoring order, maintaining peace at public gatherings and in conflict situations, participating in the planning and execution of raids and searches, pursuing and apprehending suspects, preparing and presenting case evidence in court, transporting mental subjects to mental hospitals and direct traffic for funeral processions. These are not all the duties that a patrol officer may have to perform.
 
Qualified applicants can submit a completed Personal History Statement (F-3) (preferably typed or neatly written), a photocopy of their current North Carolina driver's license and a photocopy of their birth certificate at the Moore County Sheriff's Office Monday thru Friday from 8am-5pm.

Detention Officer

Detention Officers perform difficult protective service and human support work ensuring the care and security of inmates at the Moore County Detention Center. Qualified applicants should check with the Moore County Detention Center to ascertain if there are any openings.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to sucessfully complete the Detention Officer Certification

Detention Officer 1:

Detention Officers may be required to stand for long periods of time, walk 100 yards or more 24-36 times in a 12 hour shift and use stairs frequently. Some heavy lifting is required and physical confrontations with inmates are a possibility. Good communication skills are needed to express or exchange ideas and to convey detailed information. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision. Some knowledge of basic computer skills is helpful. Detention Officers may be subjected to inside and outside environmental conditions such as extreme cold, heat, and atmospheric conditions. Due to the nature of the work, applicants should not have a fear of enclosed spaces. Officers may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

Telecommunicator

The position of Telecommunicator involves receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for the Sheriff's Office. Qualified individuals should check with the Moore County Sheriff's Office to ascertain if there are current openings.

  • Must have some computer and typing skills
  • Must be able to work various shifts
  • Must submit to a background check and drug screening
  • Must be able to obtain DCI certification and Basic Telecommunicator certification
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License
 
Telecommunicator 1 job description:
Position is responsible for operating an enhanced 911 emergency system involving a network of complex equipment. Receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls. Employee must respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to follow standard operating procedures. Ability to hear and speak clearly. Employee must be proficient in multi-tasking and communicate effectively with other agencies. Perform related duties as assigned. Employee must be able to obtain DCI certification and sucessfully pass the Basic Telecommunicator course.
