Planning & Community Development News:
The federal government offers protections against discrimination in housing to several classes of persons including: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, and familial status. Examples of housing discrimination include, but are not limited to, renting, buying/selling, lending and in procuring homeowners's insurance.
Moore County's Community Development program has a commitment to furthering federal Fair Housing goals by ensuring that allegations of discriminatory practices in housing are not ignored. Those who believe they are victims of discriminatory housing practices have a number of options. They can:
- call the federal Office of Fair Housing 1-800-669-9777 (voice) or 1-800-972-9275 (TTY)
- file a complaint online with the federal Office of Fair Housing at http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/program_offices/fair_housing_equal_opp/online-complaint
- file a complaint with a state Fair Housing officer at the Human Relations Commission at 1-866-324-7474 or http://www.doa.nc.gov/hrc/fairhousing.aspx
- visit Moore County Planning Department at 1048 Carriage Oaks Drive in Carthage or call 910-947-5010
