When Kurt Cook was assigned to Special Forces training at Ft. Bragg, he knew North Carolina would be his home forever. He is a combat proven commander from the Army Special Forces “Green Beret”, and a small business owner, husband to a veteran, and a proud father. His first exposure to formal leadership was as a cadet at Fishburne Military School and this inspired him to pursue a commission through R.O.T.C. from Towson University into the U.S. Army. Unfortunately, he was medically retired as a Major in the Special Forces while serving in Iraq, previously serving multiple combat tours in Afghanistan, and supporting activities in South America. He retired and moved to Mooresville, NC where he worked for Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) as a team member on the #9 car. The small town living of Aberdeen drew him back to Moore County where he belongs. Serving his country has always been and will continue to be a part of his life. Since a young child, he has seen what is good and bad in this world and as Edmund Burke was loosely referenced in saying, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Commissioner Cook is applying all his leadership experiences from the Special Forces, HMS, and as a small business to serve as Moore County Commissioner. He serves on the Board of Health, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Budget Task Force, the Law Enforcement / Veterans Task Force, and as the commissioners' liaison to the schools. He is also the Board's alternate delegate to the Central Pines Regional Council of Governments Board of Delegates. Commissioner Cook served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in 2025.
