Roads

Roads located within the unincorporated areas of Moore County, whether public or private, shall not be named or renamed by any method except those set forth in the Moore County Road Name and Addressing Ordinance. All existing, proposed, or constructed public or private roads or driveways that provide access to three or more habitable structures that use the road for access from the main road shall have a street name and address range assigned.

Municipal roads are to be reviewed by the County before a municipality can officially add a new or change a municipal road name. Please use the form below for the review process.

Before submitting a road name for review please ensure the following criteria have been met:

  • For subdivisions, the Preliminary plat has been approved.  Attach a copy of the preliminary plat with the signatures to the form.
  • You have read the ‘Content of Road Name’ section of the ordinance, and the road names you are submitting meet those criteria.
  • You have reviewed the Current List of Road Names before submitting to ensure that the proposed road name is not a duplicate.

No addresses will be issued until the road name has been approved by the correct jurisdiction.  Also, subdivision addresses will not be issued until the approved final plat (with approval signatures) has been received by GIS staff. It is the developer's responsibility to notify GIS that the final plat has been approved.  It is preferred that the final plat be recorded in the Register of Deeds office first.
